26 Fragrance Ads on Facebook & Instagram That Lasted

Checked 25 Oct 2026 · 26 ads from 12 brands, from Meta's Ad Library · How we pick ads

Perfume sells a smell, and a bottle, a flower or a face can never show it. The ads that lasted answer with a stand-in for the nose, and the two longest runs, at 490 and 433 days, are both Fugazzi sample sets that let a shopper try before buying a bottle. The rest lean on ingredients in the frame, a few exact words for the scent, a named shop or someone else's say-so.

  • 490+days, the longest run, a Fugazzi sample set
  • 137days, the median run
  • 17ads ran past 90 days
  • 8ads are ingredient ads, the largest type here

Samples before the full bottle · 5

Fugazzi's two sample-set ads, which ran 490 and 433 days, make the first purchase cheaper than a bottle with a refund code and a free try. Heretic Parfum sells the same idea as a custom set, and Vilhelm Parfumerie as a trio of small vials.

“TRY IT ALL AND GET A REFUND CODE.”

Why it works

A white banner sits over a flat lay of two sample vials among pink and orange flowers. The headline makes being wrong cheap: try every scent, then get a refund code, which matters for a product that has to be smelled to be judged. The flowers set the mood and the banner closes the sale. It had run 490 days when we checked, the longest of all 26 ads.

“SIX FLINGS. ONE OBSESSION.”

Why it works

One narrow box holds six scent samples, stacked beside roses and a pink gerbera on a purple wall, with the brand name at the bottom left. The dating pun turns a sample set into six things to try instead of one thing to pay for. Yellow type under the joke makes the free try the last thing the eye reads.

Advertorial examples

“layers instinctively, changes moods by midnight”

Why it works

A black Discovery Set box and a handful of loose vials lie across a diagonal band of light on deep blue. The copy opens by turning shoppers away, then describes the buyer as someone who "layers instinctively, changes moods by midnight", which makes a custom set feel chosen rather than sold. Vials let that person try combinations before committing to a full bottle. It ran 185 days.

HERETIC PARFUMRan 129+ days
Product launch ads

“Spectral Florals. Dusty Woods. Cold Citrus.”

Why it works

A black frame holds a large serif GHOSTS, a gray box with a faint pair of hands on the lid, and a row of vials standing in front. The headline names three scent families in three fragments, and that is the whole description. The tagline "Worn close. Felt deeply. Never fully explained." leaves the rest to the imagination. A vial set lets a buyer meet the scent before owning a bottle.

“Create Your Own 3 Sample Set”

Why it works

Yellow boxes and a vial labeled Room Service stand on a pale floor against a gray gradient, with Mango Skin and London Funk printed on the boxes. The headline lets the buyer pick three, and the body frames the 2 ml size as "Good things come in small packages". The scent names do some describing before any vial is opened. Box color matches the bottles in the other Vilhelm ads here.

Matiere Premiere sets its Neroli Oranger bottle in a sieve of orange blossom and its Radical Rose bottle in a bed of petals, so the ingredient does the describing. Commodity's Milk ad does the same with toasted marshmallow and wood.

“A work around the purity of orange blossom”

Why it works

A small bottle rests in the middle of a round wooden sieve heaped with fresh orange blossom, against a whitewashed wall. The flowers are the smell, shown at harvest scale, and the bottle reads like a single distilled drop of them. The label says Neroli Oranger and the body promises purity, so picture and sentence say the same thing twice. Nothing else enters the frame.

“notes of fluffy Marshmallow, rich Mahogany Wood, and warm Tonka Bean”

Why it works

A dark bottle labeled Milk floats among toasted marshmallows and chunks of wood, with milk pouring over its cap. The picture is the notes list, so the shopper sees marshmallow and mahogany before reading either word. The retailer line, Available at SEPHORA, sits top left and sends the first sniff to a store counter. The product is named for a food, and the whole frame is built to match.

Ingredient breakdown ads

“An overdose of Rose Absolute”

Why it works

The bottle lies on its side in a bed of pink rose petals that fills the frame to every edge. The scent is called Radical Rose and the body says "An overdose of Rose Absolute", so the picture delivers the overdose as quantity. Rose is a note almost every buyer can already imagine, which lets the petals stand in for strength, the one quality a viewer has no way to check.

Ingredient breakdown ads

“CLAIM IT BEFORE THE GROUP CHAT DOES.”

Why it works

A slim bottle stands on lavender with a real lilac sprig behind it and gooseberries heaped at its base, under a headline written like a message between friends. The flower and the fruit are the two notes in the product title, Lilacs & Gooseberries, so the picture works as a legend for the name. A closing line sells the 10ML size, a small first purchase for a buyer who has not smelled it.

“Clean & Comforting”

Why it works

A pale green frame holds a bottle topped with a mint leaf, a roller resting on a nubby cotton blanket, and a tuft of dried roots beside them. The headline describes the scent as a timeline, "crisp airy freshness that settles to a warm cotton musk", the way a perfumer explains a top note giving way to a base. Each prop in the frame matches a word of that line.

“SMELLS LIKE WHITE TULIP, VANILLA, AND ESPRESSO.”

Why it works

A bottle and a roller sit in a takeout cup tray beside a coffee on caramel brown, with one caption on each side: what it smells like, and what it feels like. The cup covers the espresso note without a word, and the second caption moves from notes to a mood. Anthropologie closes the frame as the place to find it. Notes first, feeling second, shop last.

Boy SmellsRan 145+ days

“just the right amount of escape”

Why it works

A model's torso fills the frame while one hand squeezes whipped cream onto the bottle's cap and the other holds it up. Coconut milk, tiare and tonka bean run down one side, and summer sun and a phone on do not disturb run down the other. The cream makes the coconut literal, and the skin makes the scent personal. It uses the same template as the Vanilla Era ad, which shows one layout can carry a range.

Flat lay ads

“Find Your New Favorite PHLUR Scent”

Why it works

An overhead flat lay of PHLUR bottles, roll-ons, deodorants and a body oil in green, peach and amber, scattered with paper tester strips and a Sephora card. The tester strips are the telling detail: they are how people smell perfume in a store, so the picture is a counter seen from above. Browsing for a favorite suits a range sold by color and name, and the headline invites exactly that.

“Never expected. Always you.”

Why it works

A striped Sephora bag overflows with bottles, roll-ons and a body oil in one pastel run from green to amber. The bag is the only retail cue, and it does the work of a shelf by saying these can be tried and bought in person. No note is listed and no ingredient is pictured. Why it works

Four bottles lean against a Sephora bag on white: Cherry Stem in red, Vanilla Skin in amber, Father Figure in green and Missing Person in peach. The names are feelings, not botanicals, so each color carries a person or a mood rather than a flower. Cropping the bag leaves only part of the retailer name, which is enough to say where the range is sold.

Maison Louis Marie leads with a press line over the bottle, Henry Rose puts its founder's name in the frame and Dossier shows Madelyn Cline holding the bottle. “For the skincare-obsessed woman.”

Why it works

A curl of orange peel balances on the stopper of a bottle in a black frame, under a pull quote credited to goop. The quote never describes the smell. It names the shopper the scent is for and lets a publication she already reads say it. The peel hints at citrus without a single note being listed, and the legible label tells her what to search for.

“This Should Come With Caution Tape”

Why it works

The cap lies off the bottle in a pale gray frame, under a press quote credited to Who What Wear. An open cap makes the bottle look ready to spray, and the quote makes the scent sound mildly dangerous. The body then adds "10+ hour wear?" right under the praise. Staying power is the other thing a nose cannot test before buying.

“LUXURY SCENTS AT A QUARTER OF THE PRICE.”

Why it works

A blacked-out bottle silhouette stands on the left of a smoky pink background, with Shay & Blue's own bottle on the right and a red Shop Now button below. The silhouette points at an expensive original without naming it, so the price claim in the headline has something to be measured against. That black shape is the only rival the ad needs.

“MICHELLE PFEIFFER”

Why it works

A black-and-white portrait of the founder fills a tall frame, a hand against her cheek, with a row of small bottles along the bottom and the brand name across the top. There is no scent word anywhere and no headline or body copy. The words "CREATED BY" put a famous name behind the scent, which gives a buyer someone to trust in place of a smell to judge.

Why it works

White comment bubbles pile across a black top half, each asking the brand to make a limited scent permanent, and a soft, out-of-focus bundle of bottles in sheer fabric fills the bottom. People who have already smelled it do the describing, and the brand answers with "Now Permanent, by Demand." “Discover Vanilla Expressions with Madelyn Cline”

Why it works

Madelyn Cline stands in a red-striped leather jacket, holding four small bottles at waist height, with the dossier logo across her chest and a $49 price pill beside her. The price is the one product fact on the picture, so the ad pairs a star with a clear entry cost for a vanilla range. Small bottles let her face carry the frame.

Why it works

The same star, now in a cream ruffled blouse and headband, holds one bottle against her cheek, with the logo across her chest and no price shown. “A woody musk”

Why it works

A clear bottle stands on a mirrored surface with blurred steel cylinders behind it, and the only words are the scent's name and a three-word body line, "A woody musk". That is all the nose gets, so the label does the pitch: Parisian Musc, eau de parfum, the brand underneath. Nothing competes with the bottle for attention. “Movies with a touch of basil”

Why it works

An amber-labeled bottle sits low in a black frame while basil leaves climb past it and a white wire loops across like a strip of film. The body gives one clue, "Movies with a touch of basil", so the leaf is the sniff test and the wire is the movie reference. Why it works

A square glass bottle sits on olive green with a black ribbon draped over it, under the line Beloved Classics and a two-word serif headline. The body adds a quoted line, "I can't quit this perfume right now", so the mood has a voice behind it. The ribbon is the only prop in the frame.

Why it works

A small bottle sits on a pale table in front of black, with a thorned green stem laid across it, a cream flower and a blueberry beside it. Briefing a scent ad for a buyer with no nose

  1. Choose the stand-in for the noseFugazzi leaned on a sample, Boy Smells on words, PHLUR on a Sephora bag and Dossier on a face, and each of those ads gave the buyer one clear reason to trust a scent unsmelled.
  2. Write the smell in notesBoy Smells names white tulip, vanilla and espresso, and Commodity names marshmallow, mahogany and tonka bean, so the buyer can imagine a smell from foods and woods they know.
  3. Show the raw materialMatiere Premiere's sieve of orange blossom and Commodity's toasted marshmallows let the shopper see the note before reading it.
  4. Make the first purchase smallA sample set, as in Fugazzi's discovery sets, or a 10ML size, as in Shay and Blue's Lilacs & Gooseberries, lowers the price of a wrong guess.
  5. Name where it can be testedBoy Smells ends on Anthropologie and PHLUR shows a Sephora bag, which tells the buyer where a nose can check the claim.
  6. Borrow a voice that is not yoursA press line from Who What Wear, a founder's name on Henry Rose or fan comments on Commodity let someone else say it smells good.

Sizes and Safe Zones are on our Instagram Safe Zone checker page.

Words for a smell

Notes as a list. Boy Smells writes "SMELLS LIKE WHITE TULIP, VANILLA, AND ESPRESSO." and Commodity's body names "fluffy Marshmallow, rich Mahogany Wood, and warm Tonka Bean". Both give the buyer foods and woods they already know the smell of.

A smell over time. Clean Reserve describes its scent as a journey, "CRISP AIRY FRESHNESS THAT SETTLES TO A WARM COTTON MUSK", so the buyer pictures the first spray and the dry-down.

A feeling, not a note. Boy Smells adds "FEELS LIKE YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE." and Heretic Parfum writes "WORN CLOSE. FELT DEEPLY. NEVER FULLY EXPLAINED.", which describes how a scent sits rather than what is in it.

The name does the work. PHLUR's Father Figure, Missing Person and Vanilla Skin and Vilhelm's Poets of Berlin and Mango Skin give a scent a story before any note is listed.

Endorsers and rival names

Faces and founders. Dossier shows Madelyn Cline in both of its ads, and Henry Rose prints "CREATED BY MICHELLE PFEIFFER". The FTC's Endorsement Guides expect a paid or otherwise unexpected tie between an endorser and a brand to be disclosed.

Press and fan quotes. Maison Louis Marie credits its quotes to goop and Who What Wear, and Commodity's ad is built from fan comments. Under the same Guides, a brand answers for a quoted endorsement as it does for its own claim.

Pointing at the original. Shay and Blue shows only a black silhouette of the luxury bottle it compares itself with, under "LUXURY SCENTS AT A QUARTER OF THE PRICE." Meta's ad standards have an intellectual property section, which is where an ad that points at another brand's product should start.

Before you brief a fragrance ad

What are some creative ideas for perfume advertisements?

Start from the one thing a picture cannot carry, the smell, and give the buyer a stand-in for it. These ads use a sample set (Fugazzi), raw ingredients around the bottle (Matiere Premiere's Neroli Oranger), a few exact words for the scent (Boy Smells) or a named shop (PHLUR's Sephora bag).

How do you sell a perfume online when people can't smell it?

Replace the sniff with something the buyer can act on: a low-risk sample, a precise description or a shop that lets them test it. The two longest runs here, at 490 and 433 days, are Fugazzi sample sets, and the third longest is a bare bottle with the words "A woody musk".

Do sample and discovery sets work as an ad offer?

They are the offer behind the longest runs in this set, although a long run only shows a brand kept paying for an ad. Fugazzi's two sample ads ran 490 and 433 days, while Heretic Parfum's two set ads ran 185 and 129 days.

Should a fragrance ad use a celebrity or a founder?

It can, when the name vouches for a smell the buyer has no way to check. Henry Rose prints "CREATED BY MICHELLE PFEIFFER" over a portrait with no headline or body copy, and Dossier puts Madelyn Cline in two ads, though nothing here shows whether either sold more.

Can a fragrance ad name another brand's perfume?

Some point at one without naming it: Shay and Blue sets a blacked-out bottle silhouette beside its own under "LUXURY SCENTS AT A QUARTER OF THE PRICE." Comparison like that is where Meta's intellectual property standards apply, so read that section before an ad points at a rival's product.

Make perfume ads like these

A fragrance ad has to stand in for the sniff with a sample, exact words or a shop, so bring your client's website or your own and we will make ads that do it.

How we pick ads. We search Meta's public Ad Library for ads from DTC brands that sell to US and UK shoppers, keep ads running 14 days or more, skip catalogue ads, and show at most 3 per brand. Days running is a spend signal: brands rarely keep paying for an ad that doesn't sell. Day counts are as of the check date above. Breakdowns are written by Gimme Gimme's ad analysis engine from each ad's image and copy, and edited by Josh Jackson, founder. Not affiliated with the brands shown; ads appear for commentary and analysis. To have an ad removed, email hello@getgimmegimme.com and we'll take it down within 7 days.
