29 Makeup Ad Examples That Brands Kept Running on Meta
Checked 25 Oct 2026 · 29 ads from 17 brands, from Meta's Ad Library · How we pick ads
Foundation, brow gel and mascara are judged on skin and lashes, and a quick scroll cannot show either, so the makeup ads that kept running lean on shade rows, swatches, a quiz and a free bag instead. The longest runs, both from MERIT at 250+ days, sell a set for less with a free makeup bag on a first order, and only 17% of the ads put a face in frame.
- 250+days, the longest runs (both MERIT)
- 45%are studio still lifes of the product alone
- 17%put a face or skin close-up in the frame

Five ways makeup ads show a finish a screen can't
Grouped by the job each ad does. Swipe a row, and tap “Why it works” for our breakdown.
Studio still life, finish on show · 13
The product alone against a plain ground, with the finish shown by a smear, a shade row or a lit tip. Milk Makeup lines its tubes under skin-tone chips, and Jones Road Beauty sets its dropper bottles over their own strokes.
Close-up skin carries the claim · 5
The skin or the lashes are the proof, and the product shrinks or leaves the frame. Kosas and ILIA Beauty crop to the eye, and Westman Atelier props a bottle at a portrait's shoulder. None ran past 61 days.
Out of the studio, into a scene · 4
These leave the white studio. MERIT sets its Intro Set on a wooden platter in dappled sunlight, Glossier tips its bag onto a countertop, and M·A·C Cosmetics runs a title card over a pair of elevator doors.
Proof printed on the picture · 4
Proof is printed on the picture. IL MAKIAGE sets a customer quote over rows of foundation bottles, ILIA Beauty prints a Sephora sales rank with its footnote, and Jones Road Beauty screenshots requests for minis.
Offer or limited edition first · 3
The offer or the limited run leads. Milk Makeup puts "20% OFF" in a black badge, Rare Beauty rings a free deluxe sample in the corner, and Half Magic Beauty opens with a Limited Edition tag on its Euphoria collection.

Settling shade, wear and the first order in one makeup ad
- Name the shopper's doubt firstDecide whether the doubt is shade, wear or the cost of a first order, as IL MAKIAGE does by opening on "Wearing the wrong shade foundation."
- Show the range, not one swatchLine the shades up the way Milk Makeup does, so a pale and a deep skin tone can each find a match in the frame.
- State wear in hours on the productPut the hold beside the formula, as REFY does with "12hrs of flake-free sculpted hold", so the claim is about the product and not a result on a person.
- Lower the risk of a first orderA deluxe sample, a mini, a free bag or a home trial lets a new buyer try the brand before paying a full-size price, as Rare Beauty and Jones Road Beauty do.
- Crop in tight for a lash or eye launchKosas and ILIA Beauty fill the frame with an eye when the news is a mascara shade, so the lash line is the picture.
- Print proof inside the imageSet the quote, the rank or the comments in the frame itself, and put the source in small type, as ILIA Beauty does under its Sephora line.

Matching a shade on screen
Show the range. Milk Makeup lays its gel tint tubes under a row of skin-tone chips, Jones Road Beauty sets its drops over their own strokes, and IL MAKIAGE fills the frame with bottles from pale to deep.
Let a quiz do the matching. IL MAKIAGE opens with "Most common makeup mistake? Wearing the wrong shade foundation." and sends people to a quiz that takes "90 seconds".
Take the risk out of the first order. IL MAKIAGE offers a "14 days" home trial, Rare Beauty adds a free deluxe sample, and fentybeauty shows a full size and a mini side by side.
Say when a shade is back. Victoria Beckham Beauty's line "Back in every shade" tells returning shoppers their color is restocked, and Kosas names each new mascara shade in a colored tag.
Claims that carry a source
A rank with its footnote. ILIA Beauty prints "#1 Mascara at Sephora*" and sets the sales data source and the ranking basis in small type at the foot of the frame.
A quote with a name. IL MAKIAGE credits its quote to "SARAH C.". The FTC's Endorsement Guides expect an endorsement to reflect the endorser's honest opinion, and a material connection such as free product to be disclosed.
Wear stays on the product. Milk Makeup says "up to 12 hours of wear" and REFY says "12hrs of flake-free sculpted hold", both describing the formula. Meta's ad standards limit before-and-after images and implied results, and none of these ads uses one.

What to settle before you brief a makeup ad
How do you show makeup shades in a static ad?
Show the range itself, with a swatch beside each shade. Milk Makeup lines its tubes under skin-tone chips, Jones Road Beauty lays its illuminating drops over matching strokes, and IL MAKIAGE fills the frame with foundation bottles from pale to deep.
Does a makeup ad need a face in it?
No, and most of these ads leave the face out. 17% put a face or skin close-up in frame, and none of the 5 ads that ran past 90 days does, while Kosas, ILIA Beauty, Westman Atelier and Haus Labs use close crops for newer launches.
What should a makeup brand offer for a first order?
A set or a free item is the common first-order hook here, and the two longest runs, both from MERIT, use it. Glossier pairs its bestsellers with a free Beauty Bag, Rare Beauty offers a free deluxe sample with "$30+", and Milk Makeup uses "20% OFF" on a concealer and brush.
Can a makeup ad quote a customer or cite a sales rank?
Yes, if the quote comes from a real customer and the rank can be backed with a source. IL MAKIAGE signs its quote "SARAH C." and ILIA Beauty footnotes "#1 Mascara at Sephora*" with the data behind the ranking, and the block above links the FTC and Meta rules.
How do you advertise a limited-edition or collaboration makeup collection?
Put the name that carries the news in the headline and keep the products second. Half Magic Beauty leads with "LIMITED EDITION" and the Euphoria artist credit, and M·A·C Cosmetics headlines "DOJA CAT WEARS MAC" over a frame with no product at all.
Make makeup ads like these
Shade, wear and first-order risk are the doubts these ads settle in one frame, so bring your client's website or your own and build ads around the doubt holding shoppers back.
How we pick ads. We search Meta's public Ad Library for ads from DTC brands that sell to US and UK shoppers, keep ads running 14 days or more, skip catalogue ads, and show at most 3 per brand. Days running is a spend signal: brands rarely keep paying for an ad that doesn't sell. Day counts are as of the check date above. Breakdowns are written by Gimme Gimme's ad analysis engine from each ad's image and copy, and edited by Josh Jackson, founder. Not affiliated with the brands shown; ads appear for commentary and analysis. To have an ad removed, email hello@getgimmegimme.com and we'll take it down within 7 days.
